Diagnosis and Treatment in Dermatology

What is Dermatology?

Dermatology is the branch of medicine that studies the health, diseases, and care of the skin and skin appendages (hair, nails, and sweat glands). The skin, the largest organ of the human body, provides protection against external factors and is also an important indicator of overall health. Dermatologists offer diagnostic and treatment services for a wide range of conditions, from aesthetic issues of the skin to serious diseases. Dermatology focuses on the solution of many problems, including skin cancers, allergic reactions, infections, and autoimmune disorders.

Methods Used for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Dermatological Diseases

The correct diagnosis of dermatological diseases is vital for the successful progress of the treatment process. Today, both clinical examinations and technological devices are used to accurately assess the condition.

Clinical Examination

The dermatologist examines skin lesions and evaluates the symptoms of the disease. Patient history is taken, and the medical background and complaints are listened to.

Dermatoscopy

This method is particularly used for diagnosing skin cancers. With a device called a dermatoscope, skin lesions are examined in detail.

Biopsy

To make a definitive diagnosis, small tissue samples are taken from suspicious skin lesions and sent for pathological examination.

Blood and Allergy Tests

These are used to determine if skin diseases such as eczema and urticaria are caused by allergies.

Phototherapy

Ultraviolet light is used in the treatment of skin diseases such as psoriasis and vitiligo.

Laser Treatments

This method is effective for treating aesthetic problems such as acne scars, wrinkles, and skin spots. Lasers are also commonly used for the treatment of tattoos or capillaries.

Cryotherapy (Freezing Method)

A technique used to treat warts and some superficial skin lesions.
